Documentaries about the greats of photography don't seem to come up very often on TV, but thanks to the wonders of YouTube they are often made available to us. I've curated a selection of these and created a Photography Videos page on my website with a selection of films exploring the lives and imagery of some of the world's most influential photographers - masters of their craft - both old and new.
Watching and hearing about what influenced them, how they approached their work and of course, seeing their often iconic images is always inspiring, often illuminating, and well worth spending time on if you seek to expand your own photographic horizons.
The selection of videos will be expanded as more names occur to me and I'm able to source material worth watching. If anyone has any ideas for names which should feature in the list but don't as yet, please leave a comment, and if you know of any specific YouTube documentaries which should be added to this collection, maybe leave the URL in your comment so I can put it up with the others. the initial set as of today March 23rd 2016 is: Ansel Adams, Marc Adamus, David Bailey, Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Yousuf Karsh, Annie Leibovitz, Steve McCurry, Martin Parr, Lord Antony Snowdon, Edward Steichen, Edward Weston.
